I'd like to start off this week on a personal note if I may. As some of you may not be aware I am an Australian who lives in London and have been for just over 9 years now. I’ve held two ancestry visa’s until Tuesday when I applied and was successful in obtaining permanent leave to remain for the UK. This is a massive accomplishment for me and wished to share it with you all. Now that is done with let’s get into the good stuff.
Another US remake of a Japanese classic.
Thursday we had Mags’ look at the new Netflix movie, Death Note, a remake of a Japanese anime and manga series of the same name. Will this be yet another US poor adaptation? Or the saving grace for Hollywood? I won’t be spilling the beans, you’ll just have to read about it HERE.
Discovery, the latest frontier.
Second and last review of the week was Joseph with the opening two episodes of the new Star Trek series, Discovery AKA STD. Little background, Joe is a massive fan of the Trek so I like to think his thoughts have a bit of extra weight. Check them out HERE.
Real name Belcalis Almanzar, Cardi B is a modern version of the Cinderella story. Bronx born and raised, Cardi became a stripper in her teen to escape an abusive relationship but put her dancing career aside when she got fame joining the sixth season of Love and Hip Hop: New York which she left after only 2 years to concentrate on her music career. And concentrating she definitely did since her latest single 'Bodak Yellow' earned her first female rapper to top the US Billboard Hot 100 since Lauryn Hill with 'Doo Wop (That Thing)' in 1998. A good part of the other female rappers congratulated Cardi, from Missy Elliott to Nicki Minaj and Lil Kim – finally some girl solidarity after all the recent beefs. Debut album should be out in November and hopefully will be as fire as this track.
When Gorillaz release!
Humanz only came out in April and Gorillaz are in the middle of the tour promoting it, but Damon Albarn is already thinking to the next project. As they’ve done before with The Fall in 2010, they would like to drop another ‘surprise album’ sooner rather than later. Also exciting for Gorillaz fans is that in the near future they will be able to enjoy their concerts with performances by holograms of the cartoon band kind of like we've seen before... but better.
The Arctic Monkeys have come clean that they are currently in the studios working on their sixth record in a secret location. The yet to be titled album will be with us by next year, and will have been 5 years since the release of AM. There have been rumours about since April but the confirmation only came to light this week. I can’t wait to hear this.
Ready for the next Travolta transformation?
John Travolta might not always pick the right movies to star in, he might not be the best at accents and he’s a scientologist, but I still call myself a fan of this handsome devil. This time Travolta has become the Teflon Don himself for the movie Gotti, that will follow his life (duh!) between three decades. Director is Entourage star Kevin Connolly at his second full length and in the cast we also have real life wife of Travolta, Kelly Preston that will play Gotti's wife Victoria and biological Travolta daughter Ella Bleu will be his on screen offspring Angel... Nepotism much?
Production for the Avatar sequels finally began this week, and yes you read that right, SEQUELS, apparently there will be four additional films. All this is costing a pretty penny too with the budget thought to be around $1 billion dollars. If the director was anyone other than James Cameron I'd say it couldn’t be done, to make four movies back to back, but with Terminator 2, Aliens and Titanic along with many more, he has the history of producing cinematic gold. But don’t hold your breath if you want to continue this storyline, the first will be released December 18, 2020, then the next a year later before the last two in December 2024 and 2025.
Flogging the Big Bang cashcow before it's even over.
Seems like Young Sheldon wasn’t that much of a bad idea after all. The first episode of The Big Bang Theory spinoff that concentrates on the childhood of physicist/ genius Sheldon Cooper had positive reviews and the sitcom is already being extended from 13 to 22 episode …but let’s not start sucking each other dicks just yet. Two Broke Girls had a high broadcast premiere but I can't stand that show. Young Sheldon is set in 1989 and is narrated by Jim Parsons who also came up with the idea for the spin off. The style of shooting is different from the Big Bang one and there’s not laugh track so even if you’re not BBT fan you might still enjoy this.

Admit it, we are all going to be cowboys again.
Watch first, then we’ll talk… Are all you gamers excited yet? You bloody well should be. Here’s what I picked up from the Red Dead Redemption II trailer: 1. It’s a prequel, the previous game was set right at the end of the western era and this looks like it's still in the golden era of cowboys. 2. Your character is Arthur Morgan and you are a crook, so it's another anti-hero story, sweet. 3. Since this is Rockstar and there seemed to be emphasis on trains I think there will be several heist set pieces. 4. It will be huge in size, the trailer mentioned 3 states… There was more but let’s keep some secrets, shall we?
San Francisco is known for having a legendary hiphop scene dating back to the late 80's and some of my favorite albums over the years have come from groups based there. My pick this week is from a group that's part of the new crop of MC's that are keeping Frisco hiphop alive and they're called the BlueFaceKidz and the song is called "Make a Way"
