To quote a great family ‘Winter is coming’, no, we’ve got no new updates on anything Game of Thrones related, I just felt like saying it after the weather this week in London. Anywho, we have some great things to tell you about so let’s dive straight in shall we?
Beauty is only skin deep.
We kicked things off on Wednesday with Mags and her look at quite possibly the weirdest film I’ve seen in years, Pieles AKA Skins, but as strange is it is, Skins is a pure gold movie that makes you think while making you laugh, it needs to be seen to be believed. But check out the review HERE first.
Kiss me fat boy!
Since part one of the new IT film was released in Australia on Thursday, Matthew decided to sit down and watch the 1990 classic to see how it stands up after 27 years. Turns out, pretty well, but don’t take my word for it, you can read it for yourself and see why HERE.
Which brings us to yesterday’s Joint Review by me (Dan): we had heard late last week that our local venue, bar and café was under threat of closure due to redevelopment. So, I decided to write about how awesomesauce The Sound Lounge is to at least help raise awareness, let’s hope it worked.
If you missed it you can find it HERE.
Great news for those of you in Australia and New Zealand, Foo Fighters have announced a summer tour with Weezer. The bands will be starting out in my old home town of Perth, before heading east via the south, meaning they will also preforms in Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne before flying over to the ‘land of the long white cloud’ for a show in Auckland. This sounds like one hell of a tour and wish I could see it.

Mike Flanagan is one of the best horror directors out there now. Fact. If you loved his Oculus, Hush and Before I Wake, finding out he decided to bring to life the 'unfilmable' novel by Stephen King Gerald's Game, should get you pretty excited. I just finished reading the book and I can see from the trailer that a couple of things are a bit different in Flanagan's version but I couldn't care less, because I have total faith in this man to nail the film, which will be on Netflix from September 29th.
It sounds like Fox studios is going to milk the Deadpool popularity just a little bit longer with the news that the ‘merc with the mouth’ will be one of the lead men in the upcoming X-Force spinoff, which is now going to be written and directed by Drew Goddard (The Martian). While I love the character of Deadpool I'd hate the X-Men franchise to be flooded with him and wonder if this is the best choice from Fox? Only time will tell.
Ready for another cleansing?
The Purge premise is simple: the US government decided that the best way to reduce crime is to make it legal for 12 hours once a year. Who would have thought that with such a basic idea they would have come up with all these great flicks that are never boring, keep on giving and reinventing themselves. I thought Election Year was gonna be the last of it but thank fuck I was wrong. So wrong. In fact there's a fourth movie coming out on the 4th of July 2018, The Purge: The Island that is directed by Gerard McMurray and is going back to the first Purge night trialed on Staten Island. But there's also more news, in fact creator James DeMonaco is working on a TV series that is set 7 years after the first Purge but also shows flashbacks to the lives of the protagonists pre-Purge. Nice!
Seems the magic is gone.
For those of you of a certain age, you might be excited about The Magic School Bus Rides Again, a reboot/ sequel to the original series. The new season will debut on Netflix (where else?) on the 29th of September and until I watched this trailer I was a little pumped as this was a childhood favourite, but my god why does it look so wrong? Something really didn’t feel right about this. If this was a staple of your younger viewing, please watch and comment how you feel about this.
Two of our favourite TV comedies will be back sooner than we thought: Brooklyn 99 and Modern Family. 99 took us by a bit of surprise since I’ve heard next to nothing and all of a sudden we are seeing the 3 more weeks posters all over Facebook, needless to say I can’t wait for the 26th of September because I need to see how Peralta and Diaz are getting out of jail. Then we have Modern Family, which will be returning to our sets one day later on the 27th, the big news here is this will be the second last season with the creators aiming to wrap things up with the 10th, all good things must come to an end I guess.
Gamers rejoice! L.A. Noire, the classic neo-noir detective game is getting a spruced-up remake and will be released in November for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and VR. I’ve seen some of the visuals and it's stunning, this edition will include all the DLC’s of the original. I never owned L.A. Noire back in the day, though I watched someone play it for hours once so this is my excuse to rectify that.

It's been 8 years since Cam'ron's dropped an album and the anticipation for something new from him is heavy for fans like me. He's finally released a dope single and I'm hoping it's a lead up to a new album. The song's called "Dime After Dime" and the beat is a banger cause they flip Cyndi Lauper's classic "Time After Time" into an ode about slangin' yay.
