Ocean Grove continues to impress me... Can anything stop these Melbourne boys?
Back in February I reviewed Ocean Grove’s debut album The Rhapsody Tapes, at the end I left a message to the band asking them to do a gig in London. Whether they actually listened to me or not isn’t the point (they were in Europe for the Slam Dunk festival and a handful of shows), but what does matter is that they came over and by all accounts killed it at every performance
Ocean Grove only had an hour to shine but they nailed every second of it, showing how the Aussie boys do it abroad. They are seriously masters of their craft, banging out track after track of what I’m still calling Nu-Metalcore (while they say it's Odd World Music) awesomeness. Even though The Black Heart has a small capacity, that didn't stop the punters from going absolutely mental, folks at the back were headbanging and moshing like they normally do up the front, there was also one of the smallest 'walls of death' I've ever seen (which Mags was almost in the middle of) and damn near everyone was crowd surfing from band members to punters. Every song sounded just like the record version and the vocals were on the ball, I just wish I had a setlist to refer to.
