Release date: No fucking idea on this one.
I know I mentioned this one last year too. But let’s be honest here, until this album drops I will keep putting it on the top of my “Most Anticipated Albums of XXXX”. Good news is the band are working hard on the still untitled release. Bad news is there is still no lead time on when we’ll be seeing it, to the point every time a small flash of good news like “it’s almost done!” is met by an interview with a member stating they are nowhere near close. The one that annoyed me the most last year was a report sometime around April, musically it was complete and just needed Keenan’s lyrics to be added, one week later the band officially stated this was not true. We Tool fans have waited a long time so far, yet another year won’t kill us, it’ll be totally worth it.
Release Date: Wer weiß!
This one seems to be internet rumours, but there does appear to be movement in the group’s camp making it a little more believable. The German Industrialists have always taken their time when it comes to releasing albums, being perfectionists, but since I first heard a snippet of this early last year, it makes me think if we’re lucky we’ll see it late this year, early next if we’re not.
Release Date: Summer
Finally, an album that isn’t pure rumour, Stone Sour’s next release, which hasn’t been named yet, is getting metalheads a little excited. Lead singer Corey Taylor has been quite vocal in the last 6 months helping to set the scene telling Loudwire that while his commitments to Slipknot has kept the group from getting it done earlier, they are aiming to be in the studio to record it now and aim for a release sometime in summer, keep an eye out for the review when it hits the airwaves.
Release Date: on a Lonely Day (get it?)
While Tool fans have waited a long time, System of a Down fans have waited longer… by a year. But the light at the end of the tunnel seems closer than ever, after the amazing Wake up the Souls tour in 2015 which many of us saw as the awesome reunion, it could only be a matter of time before something was announced. Most of last year there was talk, rumours, quick clips and photos from the band member’s social media sites of rehearsal studios, adding fuel to the fire up until November, when drummer John Dolmayan more or less confirmed the approaching album to Kerrang! Magazine saying they have at least 15 new tracks ready. This will big a big one.
Release Date: Soonish, maybe?
Yep, another entry from last year’s list and after reading up as much as I can I’m not surprised we’re still waiting on this one. The band stated quite early in the writing process that they were tackling this upcoming album differently from how they normally do them. That being said Chester Bennington told fans back in September “We’ve done some really great stuff in here. The songs are amazing”. So, it sounds like the bulk of the work is done, I expect this one very soon, unless Linkin Park are setting up some tour dates to drop at the same time.
Release Date: February 14th
Yep, there’s no keep the God of Fuck down these days, hot off 2015’s The Pale Emperor and the tours that took him all around the world in support of said album, he found time to act in TV shows and films while also finding yet more space in his diary to write and record SAY10 which will be hitting our ears on Valentine’s day. Keep an eye out for Mags’ review on this one.
Release Date: Up in the Air (see what I did there?)
Seems the boys are keeping their cards to their chest here and not releasing much info other than front man Jared Leto saying it will be “very sexual”. I really enjoyed the older stuff from 30STM and didn’t quite get into the last album Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams. While I’m hearing reports its continuing to branch out from their comfort sound, I’m still hoping it has some of the old-school aspects which the band is known and loved for. This one could go either way.
Release Date: Rumoured to be out the first half of the year.
Yep, the anime band are coming back, and I can’t wait. We all know it’s mainly Damon Albarn, but I just love the whole gimmick. I’ve been a fan of this group since its first album Gorillaz back in 2001, yes I know you're saying “But Dan, it’s not metal! You love metal!”. You are right I do, but I love a bit of everything too and this is one of them. To me the Gorillaz are the perfect blend of Alternative Rock, Electronica, Trip Hop and Alternative Hip Hop, what’s not to love?
Release Date: sometime in 2017
This one is totally long overdue, in 2015 they released their EP Trust Fall (Side A), a worldwide tour and sadly failed on the Side B. But all this will change sometime this year. Guitarist Mike Einziger took to twitter to inform us, the devoted fans, that a new tour and album are upcoming. Sweetabix.
Release Date: if you know anything please let me know!
Personally, I’m highly doubtful this one will happen this year due to the members and their side projects (Taylor with Stone Sour, Shawn Crahan being a director) but the whispers are out there. Also, if I recall the group did mention taking time off before coming back with a new release. They did finish their 2-year tour last August. Could that of been enough for the 9? I hope so, I'd love to hear some new Knot.

And this concludes the Ronon’s Reviews Best of 2016 and Most Anticipated of 2017 lists for this year, we hope you enjoyed them as much as we did throwing them together. From now on we are back to the weekly grind of reviews on whatever tickles our fancy.
