Thank you once again twitter for introducing yet another amazing generally unheard of band into my life, Black Coast.
Crows of the North is a 5 song EP that, while doesn’t bring anything new or innovating to metal/hardcore genre, is a kick ass and amazing first release. ‘Violence Reigns’ is the opener and really gets the blood pumping with its no frills rock sound. Mid way through, ‘Plagues’ continues this trend and expands it with its awesome guitar riffs, switching between deep droning to high screeching during the verse and chorus. But my favourite would have to be the title track and closer ‘Crows of the North’ which just starts so balls to the wall till just over half way through before slowing and tuning down, lulling you into a false soft finish before going all out again.
I’ll admit that Black Coast aren’t the greatest metal band on the planet right now, sorry guys but nowhere near it. But in their own right they are brilliant, keeping it simple but interesting and most importantly easy to head bang to tunes (seriously, I struggled not too while writing this). I can see a bright future for Black Coast, this EP was released before the group was even around for a year and they will be doing a small tour supporting Grains in June through the midlands, if they got another record out before the end of the year I really wouldn’t be surprised. A talented band that while doesn’t reinvent metal suits it down to a tee.
