What happens when hardcore punk and metalcore come together? Beartooth, that’s what
The answer is no, Aggressive, released the 3rd of June 2016 is nothing short of amazing while staying true to the band’s style of play and sound. Title track and lead single ‘Aggressive’ plays the part of the perfect opener by setting the tone right from the beginning, full of energy and easy to listen to it’s no wonder this is all over the rock stations here in the UK, I can imagine this really going off during a live set. ‘Loser’ showcases the infusion I spoke of earlier perfectly, the intro, the pace, hell most of the first half just reeks of punk and it fits in so well, it adds a certain element that helps push this album even further. ‘Always Dead’ is the pure metalcore and headbanger’s classic that every record needs, the speed drumming is on point, the guitars never let up, and the vocals are a brilliant middle point between the regular dirty metalcore and clean lyrics.
I really enjoyed Aggressive all the way through, the reason I chose those tracks above from all the rest is, I love a strong start and more importantly the other two really push the case that Beartooth has found that perfect middle ground between the two genres they’ve mastered and utilized them like no other I’ve seen before (please correct me if I’m wrong). Beartooth have continued their busy touring of the last couple of years, just a quick glance at their upcoming dates on their site show they are fully booked up all over the world until at least early September, though something tells me that they won’t stay put for very long. I regret not listening to this group before now, I’ve missed out on some amazing tunes and from what I’ve heard some brilliant shows, well that stops now, next time they’re in London count me in.
