When Danny Worsnop left Asking Alexandria January last year everyone including myself thought it was going to be all over for the band from York, fortunately The Black shows they are back and better than ever.
The Black isn’t just a pure metalcore release as A.A. have incorporated many different styles, which makes the first listen such an experience, one song will be core while the next will completely blow you away with its different direction. Title track ‘The Black’ is complex with its many layers and the band is really showing off their abilities and intentions. ‘Sometimes it Ends’ starts with a quick insert of an interview with Ben Bruce before being hit by a wall of anger in the form of instruments and highlights the vocal range of Dennis Stoff. In ‘The Lost Souls’ and ‘Just a Slave to Rock N Roll’ they have taken the Avenged Sevenfold sound and instead of just using it they have twisted it to made it their own.
The Black which came out last Friday the 25th of March is the band’s perfect FU to everyone who said they couldn’t make it without Danny and it proves that Asking Alexandria is more than just one person. They took their loss in their stride and in my opinion came out stronger. With Stoff now on the mic and Ben Bruce behind the wheel I can’t see Asking Alexandria slowing down, they were good before, they are now awesomesauce. This has a high chance of being one of my top 5 at the end of the year. I wasn’t originally planning on see them at Koko in August, but I think I might just have to now.
