It’s hard to believe it’s been 10 long years since Rob Zombie first unleashed his 3rd solo album Educated Horses upon the world and to celebrate this amazing work and to whet your appetites for his forthcoming album, we are going back to 06 and checking Horses out again.
What finally reached the fans that day was a brilliant 11 track experimental masterpiece, where John 5 and Zombie had played ideas and thoughts off one another and came back with musical gold. ‘Foxy Foxy’ was the first single out, back on February 14th and was by far the most radio friendly and “party going” of the lot and quite a catchy tune that still has that ability today. ‘American Witch’ followed and was quite darker as the song was about the massacre during the Salem witch trials of 1692. Though my favourite has to be the amazing ‘Death Of It All’ after almost a minute of acoustic guitar instrumental it finally breaks into a toned down and almost easy listening version of industrial metal while Zombie’s lyrics compliment it perfectly.
Educated Horses would have to keep us occupied for the next 4 years as Zombie would put his music career on hold while continuing to establish himself as a film director, releasing only a live album between films before finally giving us Hellbilly Deluxe 2 in 2010. Fortunately, this collection of tracks has more than enough staying power, I still listen to it every few months, showing that even after 10 long years, several different jobs, living in 2 countries on opposite ends of the world and through countless adventures I still feel it calling to me……..
