Eye candy, a solid story or both?
Like those who’ve witnessed the first two episodes, that’s honestly all I have to go by. But if what I’ve witnessed thus far is an indication of things to come, then boy are we in for a string of Sunday night treats. This show is based on the 2001 novel of the same name by Neil Gaiman, who’s most popularly known in the States for his acclaimed comic book series “The Sandman”. This television adaptation was developed by Bryan Fuller, whose notable works include the TV series Dead Like Me (2003-2004) and most recently Hannibal (2013-2015).
• Visuals/Cinematography – Equivalent to Zack Snyder/Michael Bay films (Watchmen and The Island).
• Story/Screenplay – Equivalent to Frank Miller/Alan Moore/David Hayter; in other words, a combo of 300 and Watchmen.
Again, those are my honest comparisons based on episodes 1 and 2. I know it may seem that I am setting the expectation levels a bit high, but just bear in mind that I went into this blind. So my suggestion would be to check your expectations at the door and just enjoy this wicked show.
